Chelsea Joy Handler is a New Jersey native born in Livingston on the 25th of February, 1975. Handler was among the six children who were youngest. Her father was a used car dealer and her mother, a homemaker. Her mother is a German that immigrated to United States from Germany in 1958. In 1989, she was diagnosed with cancer and died ten years afterward. Handler was brought up Reform Judaism by her father and grandfather, who were Jewish. Handler was raised in a beautiful neighborhood and she had a very enjoyable childhood. When she was 19 the young woman relocated into Los Angeles to pursue her acting profession. To support herself, Handler began to work as an actor. Handler was able to perform stand-up comedian full-time when she reached the age of 21. She had discovered that she was gifted with the art of storytelling. Handler made her debut on her role on the Oxygen Network's Girls Behaving poorly show, which featured a reality TV show that had concealed cameras and practical jokes. Between 2002 and 2005, the show was broadcast. Handler then started appearing in several other shows like Weekends at the D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler began her work for The Tonight Show as a reporter. The biggest break for Handler came in the year 2006, as she began hosting her program on E! known as The Chelsea Handler show. The show ran for a total of two seasons. Handler participated in Comedy Central's Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour the following season within the United States. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend as well as HBO have aired her stand-up comedy performances. Her name was chosen as the host of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in 2010. As a result, she became the first female host to host the awards, following Roseanne.
